- The lineage of Jesus the Christ, descended from Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, & Judah through David, Josiah (at the time of the Babylonian captivity), & Jacob, father of Joseph, husband of Mary, is given. Jesus’s immaculate conception by Mary of the Holy Ghost is told. #Mt1
- Jesus is born in Bethlehem, part of King Herod’s Judaea. Wise men from the east follow a star to find the infant. They worship Him and give Him gifts. The holy family flees from Herod’s wrath (even unto the wise men) to Egypt, & resettle in Nazareth following Herod’s death. #Mt2
- John the Baptist prophesies the coming of the Lord, saying, Repent, for the kingdom of God is at hand. There is one coming after me whose shoes I am not worthy to bear. He suffers to baptize Jesus. A voice from heaven says, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. #Mt3
- Jesus fasts for 40 days & nights and is tempted 3 times by the devil. Man does not live by bread alone; Do not tempt the Lord thy God; Worship him only. He begins his ministry, gathers disciples & followers, heals the sick, & performs miracles. Great multitudes follow Him. #Mt4
- Jesus preaches the Sermon on the Mount. Blessed are the poor, meek & merciful. Ye are salt of the Earth & light of the world. If thy right hand offend thee, cut it off. He who looks at a woman with lust commits adultery in his heart. Turn the other cheek. Love your enemies. #Mt5
- SotM, 2. Do not give alms or pray as the hypocrite. Verily, they have their reward. Pray the Lord’s Prayer, Our father, who art in heaven… Lay not treasures where moth nor rust can corrupt, but where your heart is. No man can serve 2 masters. Take no thought for the morrow. #Mt6
- SotM, 3: Judge not, that ye not be judged. Do not look at the mote in your brother’s eye, but cast out the beam from your own. Give not to dogs what is holy, & cast not your pearls unto swine. Beware false prophets. Ye shall know them by their fruits. Build on rock. #Mt7
- Jesus cures a leper & Peter’s mother, heals the sick, quiets a storm & casts out devils to a herd of swine. Rather than have Jesus come to his home to cure his servant, a centurion says Lord, I am not worthy that you come under my roof, only say the word & let him be healed. #Mt8
- Jesus heals a man of palsy, calls Matthew, raises a ruler’s daughter from the dead, makes the dumb speak & blind see. When rebuked for dining with sinners He says The sick need a doctor, not the well. Do not fast when the bridegroom is here, or put new wine into old bottles. #Mt9
- Jesus calls His 12 disciples—Peter, Andrew, James, John, Philip, Bartholomew, Thomas, Matthew, James, Thaddeus, Simon & Judas Iscariot—instructs them & sends them out as sheep in the midst of wolves. Peace be on a worthy house; if not, depart & shake the dust off your feet. #Mt10
- Christ lets John the Baptist, in prison, know of His works & divinity. He that hath ears to hear, let him hear. He upbraids unrepentant cities. No man knows the father but the Son. Come unto me, all that labor, & I will give you rest. For my yoke is easy, & my burden light. #Mt11
- The Pharisees, looking for blasphemy, quiz Jesus about healing on the Lord’s Day & casting out devils. One may do well on the Sabbath. Does Satan cast out Satan? Blasphemy against the Holy Ghost will not be forgiven. By your words are you justified. Seek the sign of Jonas. #Mt12
- Jesus spake parables of the sower & seeds, the mustard seed that grows to the greatest tree, and the wheat & the tares. For whosoever hath, to him shall be given. At the world’s end, angels shall sever the wicked from the just. A prophet is without honor in his own house. #Mt13
- Herod the tetrarch imprisons John the Baptist & promises his niece any reward for her dancing. She asks for John’s head. Jesus flees to the desert with a multitude, feeds more than 4000 with 5 loaves & 2 fish, & walks on water. Peter expresses doubt & also walks on water. #Mt14
- Jesus is quizzed by the Pharisees as to eating with unwashed hands. Hypocrites, for not that which goeth into a mouth defiles a man, but that which comes out. Jesus saves lives, cures sick, is beset by multitudes, & changes 7 loaves & a few fish to food for more than 5000. #Mt15
- The Pharisees and Sadducees want a sign from Jesus, who rebukes them and their leaven (doctrine). He reveals his divinity to his disciples, & selects Peter as his successor. For what does it profit a man if he shall gain the whole world and lose his soul? #Mt16
- Jesus arranges a vision of God with Peter, James & John his brother. This is my beloved son, in whom I am well pleased. Jesus foretells his own death, & cures a child by rebuking the devil. Have faith, and ye shall move mountains. He arranges tribute for Peter and himself. #Mt17
- Jesus preaches to the disciples: become as a child; cut off offending body parts; woe to them that bring offenses; rejoice in the lost sheep; forgive your brother 70 by 7 times. Cursed are those who don’t forgive debts even though they themselves had theirs forgiven. #Mt18
- Jesus departs Galilee for Judaea and the Pharisees quiz Him about man & wife, divorce, & eunuchs. To enter the kingdom of heaven, follow the commandments and give to the poor. For it is easier for a camel to go thru the eye of a needle…but with God all things are possible. #Mt19
- In Jericho, Jesus tells the parable of the laborers: didst not thou agree to work for a penny? For the last shall be first and the first last. He foretells his death & resurrection, promises his disciples the kingdom of God and, as they leave, gives sight to 2 blind men. #Mt20
- In Bethphage near the Mount of Olives towards Jerusalem, Jesus asks for an ass & colt, fulfilling scripture. Jesus overthrows the moneychangers in the temples, is quizzed by the chief priests, & tells them the parables of the householder & the stone, threatening violence. #Mt21
- Jesus tells the parable of the wedding feast: For many are called, but few are chosen. The Pharisees ask him about tribute to Caesar (Give to Caesar…), wives in heaven, & the resurrection of the dead (God is the God of the living). Jesus affirms the greatest commandments. #Mt22
- Jesus spake unto the multitude, denouncing the scribes and pharisees. Woe unto you hypocrites, you lazy, pompous, arrogant iniquitous children of them that killed the prophets. Jesus goes to cry against them: Ye serpents, ye generation of vipers, how can you escape hell? #Mt23
- Near the temple at the Mount of Olives, Jesus warns of false prophets in His name, and describes signs of the end of the world & the abomination of desolation. Jesus warns of the tribulation to come, but of that date and hour knoweth no man. My words shall not pass away. #Mt24
- The parable of the wise & foolish virgins suggests to keep oil in your lamp, & that of the talents may mean to be industrious. For I was hungry (thirsty, stranger, naked, sick, in prison), & ye gave me meat… Everlasting fire for the cursed & life eternal for the righteous. #Mt25
- High priest Caiaphas & the chief priests pay Judas 30 pieces of silver to betray Jesus. A woman anoints Jesus with oil, Jesus has a last Passover supper of bread & wine, prays 3 times, and is turned over to the high priests, who accuse him of blasphemy. Peter denies Christ. #Mt26
- Judas despairs & hangs himself. Pilate release Barabbas & washes his hands. Jesus is scourged & delivered to the soldiers for crucifixion. His blood be on us & our children. Jesus asks why he is forsaken, dies, & the temple is rent. Joseph of Arimathaea takes the body. #Mt27
- An angel of the Lord tells Mary, Mary Magdalene & others that Jesus is risen. The disciples go to a mountain near Galilee to worship Jesus. Jesus tells them Go ye, and teach all nations, baptizing in the name of the Father, Son, & Holy Ghost, unto the end of the world. #Mt28
