- Paul writes to Timothy, urging him to stay in Ephesus to guard against false doctrine and those who teach the law with vain jangling. The law is to be used against the unrighteous, not the just. Even I, who persecuted believers, received mercy through Christ Jesus. #1Tim1
- The man Christ Jesus mediates between God & men. Men should pray with raised hands. Women should dress modestly and learn in silence. She should not have authority over a man, for he was created first, but she was deceived. Nevertheless, she will be saved in childbearing. #1Tim2
- Bishops and deacons must be blameless, vigilant, sober, given to hospitality, not given to wine nor greedy of filthy lucre. If a man knows not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church? Their (one) wife should rule their children and house well. #1Tim3
- Admonitions to the adelphi are given. Beware seducing devils, refuse old wives’ fables, bodily exercise is of little use, but godliness is the promise of life. Do not despise the youth, who can set an example in word, belief, charity, faith, and prophesy. #1Tim4
- Do not rebuke elders: treat them as father or mother, & younger people as brother or sister. Widows younger than 60 should remarry, lest they be gossiping busybodies. She that liveth in pleasure is dead while she liveth. Reprove an elder publicly if accused by 2 or more. #1Tim5
- Slaves should respect their masters, more so if the masters are believers. Avoid disputing those with corrupt minds. Be content. Fight the good fight of the faith. Do not put your hope in wealth, but be rich in good works. For the love of money is the root of all evil. #1Tim6
- Paul writes to Timothy a second time, praising him for his faith. He is encouraged to fan the flames of the spirit, and not be ashamed by the testimony of Jesus. We are saved by Jesus Christ, who has abolished death. #2Tim1
- Paul appeals to Timothy to join him to suffer for the faith. Be not quarrelsome, play by the rules, avoid false teachers, turn away from wickedness. Be like an instrument of special use made of gold or silver, not common use made of wood or clay. Gently instruct opponents. #2Tim2
- In the last days, perilous times shall come, with evil men leading gullible women to sin. Beware magicians like Jannes and Jambres. All that live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. The scriptures will make you wise unto salvation. #2Tim3
- In a farewell address, Paul tells Timothy to preach the word, even to those who only want to hear what their itching ears desire. I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Though abandoned by many, the Lord has stayed at my side. #2Tim4
