- Paul addresses his readers & calls the Gentiles to Jesus Christ. He tells of his wish to preach the gospel in Rome & of the wrath of God against the wicked, rooted in disbelief of God & sexual immorality. Homosexuals are condemned, as God gave them over to shameful lusts. #Rm1
- Those who judge are condemning themselves, because God will judge them in return. Those who obey the law will be declared righteous, even if they are not bound by the law. A person is a Jew if he follows the law, not if he is circumcised. #Rm2
- Paul rejects the argument that the righteousness of God depends on the sinfulness of man. There is no difference between Jew and Gentile, for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. A person is justified by faith apart from the works of the law. #Rm3
- Paul argues that one is justified by faith, not works. For Abraham, his belief in God was credited unto him for righteousness. Not through the law—or being circumcised—but through faith that the Lord promised Abraham that he would be heir to the world. #Rm4
- We are justified by faith, and our suffering brings hope. Though Adam brought us death through his sin, Christ brings life through His sacrifice. Where sin increases, graces increase more to bring eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. #Rm5
- The death He died sets you free from sin. He died to sin once for all. Count yourself dead to sin but alive to God. The benefit of holiness is being set free from sin and becoming a slave to righteousness. #Rm6
- One is released from the law by death that you might belong to another, Him, who was raised from the dead. The law is spiritual by allowing us to see sin. Though I delight in God’s law, I am slave to the law of sin. Who will rescue me? Jesus Christ, our Lord! #Rm7
- The mind governed by the flesh is death. The spirit of Christ gives life. Jesus Christ has set you free from the law of sin and death. Present suffering leads to future glory. The Spirit intercedes for us through wordless groans. If God is for us, who can be against us? #Rm8
- The ancestry of the Messiah is traced from the people of Israel. As God’s children, Jews & Gentiles are not equally favored (like Esau & Jacob), depending on God’s mercy. But Gentiles can equally attain righteousness. #Rm9
- Christ is the end of law, that everyone who has faith may be justified. For there is no distinction between Jew & Greek; the same Lord is Lord of all & bestows his riches on all who call upon him. For Isaiah said: Did they not hear? Did Israel not understand? #Rm10
- Paul, apostle to the Gentiles of the tribe of Benjamin, says God has not rejected Israel, only those who bend the knee to Baal. Through their trespass, salvation has come to the Gentiles to make Israel envious. The branches of faith can be cut off or grafted on. #Rm11
- Offer your body as a living sacrifice to God. Think soberly. We, being many, are one body in Christ. Prophesy or ministry, be fervent in spirit & rejoice in hope. Be not wise in your own conceits. Give place unto wrath, for it is written, Vengeance is mine, saith the Lord. #Rm12
- Submit to the authorities, who are God’s servants. Leave no debt outstanding. Love does no harm to a neighbor. Therefore love is the fulfillment of the law. Wake up from your slumber: the night is almost over, the day almost here! Think not about how to gratify the flesh. #Rm13
- If we live, we live for the Lord, and if we die, we die for the Lord. So, whether we live or die, we belong to the Lord. 9 For this very reason, Christ died and returned to life so that he might be the Lord of both the dead and the living. #Rm14
- Be Christlike to bear the failings of the weak. Christ has become a servant of the Jews that the Gentiles might glorify God for his mercy. In Him do the Gentiles hope. Paul is minister to the Gentiles and plans to proclaim the gospel of God in Spain. #Rm15
- Paul concludes the letter, written around 55 AD. He commends Phoebe of the Church of Cenchrea, & sends greetings to the many serving our Lord Jesus Christ. Paul’s close supporters include his amanuensis Tertius, co-worker Timothy, & fellow Jews Lucius, Jason, & Sosipater. #Rm16
