- James writes to the 12 tribes to persevere with faith in your trials. Believe but do not doubt. God does not tempt; you are tempted by evil desires. Be quick to listen, slow to speak, & slow to anger. Listen to the word & do what it says. Keep a tight rein on your tongue. #Jms1
- Do not show favoritism: the poor may be as rich in faith as the rich. Judge with mercy: he shall have judgment without mercy who shows no mercy. Faith without works is dead. By works is your faith made perfect, as in the case of Abraham. By works is a person justified. #Jms2
- A spark kindles a raging fire, a rudder turns the boat, a small bit in a horse’s mouth turns the whole animal. The tongue makes great boasts: though small, it defiles the whole body. Tame the tongue: it is a restless evil. Show wisdom with good conversation and humility. #Jms3
- Desire leads to sin. Friendship with the world means enmity against God. What is your life? You are a mist that appears for a little while and then vanishes. Do not boast of the future. Instead say, if it is the Lord’s will, we will do it. #Jms4
- The rich are warned that misery is coming to them for hoarding wealth and failing to pay wages. Be patient, as a farmer is when waiting for the rains. Be patient and persevere, like Job. Do not swear oaths, but answer yes or no. Confess your sins and pray for each other. #Jms5
