2 May, Busked in DC, at Metro Center, Lafayette Park, Dupont Circle. See here.
28 April, I decided to check out the Huntington metro on Friday evening, the start of a big weekend, since I found myself just playing pointlessly to myself at home. I got there just before 7 pm with my Martin; I think I had already showered though so by that time of day I was definitely not wearing the shirt I slept in. Made no money. The configuration is wrong for busking. You have to be in the middle of the human flow, or close to its edge. People will almost never deviate more than 10 feet from their path to give a buck. Maybe I’ll go back to Franconia and play for free. I only lasted 45 minutes. I’ll be looking for a better venue.
26 April, Wednesday (Monday and Tuesday were rainy) at Huntington Metro Station. I had to get out of the house when the cleaning people came. I walked all the way from the parking garage on the Huntington Side to the (upper) North Kings side. There was a nice spot to play right at the exit from the metro which did not have all the bus noise, like the entrance to the Huntington side of the Huntington Station. I did not want to hassle with Metro Police, so kept my guitar case closed and just played. It was only an hour or maybe 1.5 hours, starting at about 12:30 pm. It was very dead, rarely more than a person or two in the entire ticketing area, but once a child with her dad insisted on giving me a dollar. Later one of the Metro Cops came over. I pointed out that I was not asking for donations, and he asked me to return the dollar to him, which was laying in front of me, when I left (which I didn’t do). There were a few cool occasions–an air guitarist, and another guy encouraging me to solo. The lesson for Huntington is: if you’re going to busk here, use the North Kings side. I played my trusty Martin, and busked in the shirt I slept in.
23 April, Sunday, Alexandria near Torpedo Factory, 12 – 2 pm, had good sound until I had to share it with an a cappella black group, weather kind of sucked, made enough to cover parking, but not enough for oysters; I did busk in the shirt I slept in.
21 April, 2-3 pm, Franconia metro: booted by metro police (did not busk in shirt I slept in); CDs arrived.
20 April, 11 am – 2 pm; 5 – 7:30 pm, Franconia metro. Successful busking; did busk in the shirt I slept in. Played Martin at noon and the Ovation in the evening.
